Disney Fairytale Wedding Trip Report: EPCOT Illuminations Welcome Party

After O’Hana we had a bout an hour to kill before the buses I had arranged would show up to take us to EPCOT for the welcome party. I was worried at first but it worked out well because everyone was so stuffed and people wanted to check out the Polynesian and take pictures. Finally the buses arrived and we all headed over to backstage at UK Pavilion. For some reason I was so nervous. Actually I was more nervous on the day of the rehearsal then I was on the wedding day. I think it was just all of the energy and moving from place to place, rather the the actually wedding the next day. As we got off the bunch a whole bunch of Pooh characters were leaving the pavilion. Of course my brother in law had to run after them but they were all very nice about it.

I really didn’t get to eat anything except for one rice cripy treat and a glass of Baileys. I remember telling Randy I couldn't start pictures until I at least got one crispy treat!

The guides were a blast leading us through World Showcase

Excuse us, VIP's coming through!

We had the "Child in You" menu and we added a few things like baklava and a cordial bar as well as some bottles of water. Everyone seemed to love the dessert and people were joking about putting some in bags to go.

In the beginning of the party it was so bright out. I was getting nervous because I could not recall ever  seeing another brides Illuminations party while it was bright out. Thinking back this was most likely because I asked to extended (at a price) the party to begin earlier so I had more time with my guests and they had more time with the food. I decided to forget about it and just enjoy the moment and my guests.

I am on the phone with a wedding guest who is trying to find the terrace and my mom is being a jokester!

Dan's family all loved it, especially the kids.

My guests brought my welcome bags too!

We had to get at least one drink in!

All of a sudden, out of no where it started getting dark and that is when the mood changed. The party started to feel how I imagined one of these events going. World Showcase looked beautiful at night and the mood was finally set.

My brother and I

Apparently during this time my uncle (who was walking me down the aisle) decided to have a talk with Dan. My father passed a way when I was in high school and I have been very close to my uncle ever since I can remember so I asked him to walk me down the aisle. He has known Dan for many years but I guess he felt he should give some words of encouragement and welcome him officially to the family. What is so cool is that I had no idea this went on until I saw the pictures from Randy and Dan then mentioned the conversation to me. I am not sure what was said to this day but I know my uncle and Dan have a wonderful relationship so it must have been good.

Those intimate moments have become some of my favorite shots of the whole wedding. Randy caught some other intimate moments on the day of the wedding and those pictures are the ones that stir the most memories. I told Randy to feel free with his shots, and use more of a photojournalistic style, so he knew that was what I wanted.

You can see the conversation tone, just hanging out peering over the Showcase.

Just then the drums began and the promise of a new beginning was closer than ever before….

Dan and I having a little pre-wedding talk

"Good evening and welcome. We've gathered here tonight around the fire as people of all lands have gathered for thousands and thousands of years before us ... to share the light ... and to share a story. An amazing story as old as time itself, but still being written. And though each of us has our own individual stories to tell, a true adventure emerges when we bring them all together as one. I hope you enjoy our story tonight: Reflections of Earth."

Every evening
Brings an ending
Every day becomes a legacy

Every sunset
Leads to morning
With the promise of opportunity

We can reach for the stars we find along the way
Dreaming as we learn to love everyday

Promise You will take my hand
As tomorrow comes We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
If two can be as one
We'll go on

There is music
If you listen
In the rhythm of each breath we take

Destinations
Undiscovered
Revelations from every choice we make

And I know
There are diamonds dancin' in the sky
All we have to do Is open our eyes

Promise
We'll walk side by side
As a new day dawns
We'll go on

We'll go on
Growing closer through the years
Moving on
Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
A new life has begun
The two of us as one
We'll go on

Moving on

Through the good times and the tears
Ever on
Another thousand circles 'round the sun
A new life has begun
When two of us are one
And we live to keep the promise

We'll go on
Ever on
We'll go on

During the show Dan and I just couldn't get over that this day was finally here. Through two years of planning we were finally at our welcome party and the next day we were getting married.  I was so happy and of course I was tearing like crazy during Illuminations. Randy actually had to ask me to tie up my hair because I kept wiping my tears and my hair was getting stuck to my face. What a wreck! The whole party was so amazing, it flew by so fast but I was happy to have this time to spend with my guests outside of the wedding reception and people were thanking us for inviting them. I was emotional, but alright because I knew the next day I was getting married. That night we were sleeping in the Garden Suite as we moved rooms to have the suite for getting ready the next day. My dream was becoming a reality.

Up Next..Someone's getting married...
